Soils

Soils act as central sequestration of greenhouse gases, especially CO2. In order to avoid greenhouse gas emissions and retain organic carbon in the soil, it should be managed carefully and in a way that increases humus.

The type of agricultural use, which is generally Germany’s main land use, has a particularly strong impact on soils. During cultivation, climate protection services such as filters, carbon and water stocks must be preserved and soil diversity must be maintained and promoted. Ultimately, healthy soils also secure our food supply. The instructions also apply to forestry.
